Båda lagen nöjda efter matchen

Last weekend something spectacular could be seen on the Fyrisfjädern grass in the midday heat, as Uppsala ladies fielded two teams against eachother. One consisting of current players, and the other full of previous players eager for a one-off comeback to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary. The game was played 12 vs 12 and with 4 shorter periods of 15 minutes to allow maximum rest and maximum fun.

The Golden oldies kicked off and you could tell from the start some of them have sorely missed the game. Captained by one of the ladies’ team founders and also captain from 1992, Britta Alstad, the team in blue and white had considerable experience and skill on the pitch. Not to mention a crushing front row. Today’s Uppsala scrum, in their Wild west kit, had a hard day at the office against props Sofia Bergvall (nowadays Exiles ladies) and over-excited Synnevi Almgren.

Their strong scrums gave them a good platform to attack from and the Golden oldies was the first team to score, as still speedy Karin Ripol ran untackled round the outside and touched down in the corner. Bit of a wake up call for current Uppsala, and lots of swearing from coach Olsson during the first water break.

As the game went on, the Wild west Uppsala team found holes out in the blue and white back line defence, and redeemed themselves a little when both Emelie Hellgren and Sara Sundler scored more than once each. A long sprint from Johanna Boström resulting in a try meant that the ”home” team was up 30-5 in the last period. Still fighting, the Golden oldies managed another try through Lotta Wiik as she dived on the ball after a messed up situation on the try line. Final result 30-10 to the current Uppsala ladies, and smiles all round!
