After a big first leg in Stockholm last weekend, Uppsala Berserkers made the voyage to Gothenburg to fight for 5th place. Even with a full squad for the last 15’s game of the season, the ladies knew they needed to put in a massive effort to secure a win.
Uppsala Berserkers frustratedly tried to get back onto their feet and over the line but Gothenburg persisted and held up a try in the opening 20 minutes. Part time lumberjacks Ava Feghhi and Cristel Capetillo chopped down players like a breezy day in the forest, but still Gothenburg broke through the gaps in the defensive line to see them ahead at the end of the first half.
Iona McLachlan and Siri Millde struck fear in to the eyes of the Gothenburg players with their beastly runs into the opposition, some say the sound from one of the colissions still echoing throughout the valleys down to Partille. The sun was shining through the clouds but unfortunately the ladies couldn’t get through the defence and saw another try held up in the second half.
Just like the first leg, the game was incredibly physical and as several players dropped due to injuries, so did the morale. Uppsala Berserkers conceded several more tries to see Gothenburg well ahead. A last-minute attempt at the line by Dani Sakai was unsuccessful and the ladies left with a tough loss both physically and mentally. Final score was 39-5 to GRF. However, the ladies still hold their heads high knowing how much of an improvement has been made since meeting on the very same pitch last year. Ending the season with a loss is always hard, but at least the party bus showed up for the journey home!
